About Us

WHO WE ARE

JP Ryans GAA Club is a hurling and camogie club in Vancouver BC, that promotes the national games of Ireland here in Canada. The team was founded in 2008 under the umbrella of the ISSC [Irish Sporting Social Club]. In 2011, we renamed the hurling team to JP Ryans in memory of Joseph P Ryan, a founding member of the GAA who emigrated to Canada. JP was buried in Cranbrook, British Columbia.

In 2017, JP Ryans was officially recognised as it’s own GAA Club, becoming Vancouver’s first hurling club. Today, we continue to promote and support Irish cultural and sporting events in Greater Vancouver. Since the beginning, we have grown significantly, from one team, to now fielding four hurling teams at every grade from Senior to Junior B. In 2024, for the first time, JP Ryans will welcome a Camogie team to the club.

As of 2023, JP Ryan hurlers have won 4 Vancouver Championships in a row, the 2019 North American Senior Hurling Championship, and both the Senior and Intermediate 2022 National Canadian Hurling Championship.
